Effective Fall 2020, this course fulfills a single unit in each of the following BU Hub areas: Global Citizenship and Intercultural Literacy, Aesthetic Exploration, Critical Thinking. Class materials include novels, short stories, and poems focused on questions of identity, gender, and race, spanning from the nineteenth century to the present. Section B1: This course focuses on the importance of gendered identities in Latin American cultural and literary production. We explore Latin American literature and culture through the five senses, investigating how writers and artists have turned the body into a source of knowledge and resistance against colonial practices. Topics for Fall 2023: : Section A1: Unequal Bodies, Revolutionary Senses: Feeling and Perceiving Latin American Culture. Can focus on some specific works through their connection to avant- garde movements, questions of identity and politics, media and the arts, canonical and marginal authors. Provides new and contemporary perspectives on Latin American literature and culture. Carries natural science divisional credit (with lab) in CAS. Three hours lecture, one hour discussion, four hours lab. The complementary laboratory experience emphasizes quantitative analysis and training in scientific communication. Brief review of stoichiometry, chemical reactions, and gas laws. Topics focus on quantum theory and atomic structure theories of molecular bonding and interaction and thermodynamics. Additionally, students in CH181 need a strong foundation in algebra and basic concepts from introductory calculus and physics. Students registering for CAS CH181 have typically completed more than one year of high school chemistry and will be expected to apply their high school chemistry knowledge.
